Learn to brew rich, concentrated coffee with the classic Italian stovetop method

The Moka Pot, invented in 1933, is Italy's answer to home espresso brewing. This iconic aluminum octagonal pot uses steam pressure to force water through coffee grounds, creating a rich, concentrated coffee that captures the essence of Italian coffee culture.
Moka Pot coffee sits between espresso and drip coffee in terms of strength and character. When brewed correctly, it produces a bold, slightly bitter coffee with a heavy body that's perfect for enjoying straight or mixing with milk for authentic Italian-style coffee drinks.
Fill the bottom chamber with filtered water up to the safety valve. Use pre-heated water to reduce brewing time and prevent over-extraction.
Fill the filter basket with ground coffee, leveling it gently without pressing down. The coffee should be medium-coarse, similar to table salt.
Screw the top and bottom chambers together firmly. Place on medium heat and leave the lid open to monitor the brewing process.
When you hear a gurgling sound, remove from heat immediately. The coffee should flow steadily, not violently sputter. Close the lid and let it finish extracting.
Pour immediately into preheated cups. Moka pot coffee is concentrated and can be enjoyed straight or diluted with hot water for a milder taste.
