Percolator Classic Brew
Traditional percolator brewing for bold, full-bodied coffee

Overview
The percolator represents classic American coffee brewing, popular from the early 1900s through the 1970s. This simple yet effective method continuously cycles hot water through coffee grounds, creating a strong, traditional coffee that evokes memories of camping trips and family gatherings.
While modern brewing methods have largely replaced the percolator, it remains unmatched for brewing large quantities of consistent, robust coffee. The percolating process creates a bold, full-bodied brew that's perfect for those who enjoy traditional, no-frills coffee with plenty of caffeine kick.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Add Water
Fill the percolator with cold, filtered water to the desired level. Most percolators have measurement marks to guide you.
Step 2: Insert Basket
Place the percolator basket and tube assembly into the pot. The tube should reach nearly to the bottom of the pot.
Step 3: Add Coffee
Add coarsely ground coffee to the basket. Use about 1 tablespoon per cup of water. Avoid fine grinds which can make coffee bitter.
Step 4: Begin Percolating
Place percolator on medium heat. Watch for the coffee to begin bubbling in the glass knob on top. Reduce heat to maintain gentle percolation.
Step 5: Time and Serve
Percolate for 7-10 minutes depending on desired strength. Remove from heat and let settle for 1 minute before serving to allow grounds to settle.
