Braun’s PureFlavor line pitches a fast brew cycle, a touch display, and a 14-cup capacity for bigger households, and unlike a lot of machines at this price it’s been through Consumer Reports’ lab testing rather than just marketing copy. The KF5650 is the standard glass-carafe version of that line.
The one number Consumer Reports actually measured
CR’s lab found the KF5650 “brewed close to recommended guidelines of 195°F or more, maintained for five or six minutes,” the same benchmark used across CR’s drip coffee maker testing. That puts it on equal footing with pricier machines on the one measurement that matters most for extraction, even though this is a mid-priced glass-carafe machine.
A carafe reviewers don’t complain about
CR rated the carafe “especially easy to use,” citing a comfortable handle, minimal dripping while pouring, good balance when full, and easy emptying — a genuinely good result, and one that plenty of glass carafes at this price don’t get. That said, good ergonomics don’t change the underlying physics: this is still a glass carafe on a warming plate rather than an insulated thermal one, so coffee left sitting keeps reducing and concentrating the longer the plate stays on, no matter how nicely it pours.
Brew-strength, over-ice, and the rest of the specs
Braun’s listing describes a touch display with Bold and Brew-Over-Ice modes, an adjustable warm plate, and a small-batch setting alongside the standard drip-stop and cleaning-indicator features CR also documented. CR measured the reservoir at 70oz and notes a cone-type filter basket, auto-shutoff, and a built-in water filter. Measured dimensions are 15in tall, 9in wide, and 11in deep.
Where this sits
For a household that wants a big pot fast, brewed to a lab-verified temperature, and a carafe that’s actually pleasant to pour from, the KF5650 covers the basics well. It is not the machine to buy if a warming plate specifically bothers you — Braun sells thermal-carafe siblings in the same PureFlavor family for that.
