Why numbers vary

Two “12 oz coffees” can differ a lot. Bean type, dose, grind, brew ratio, steep time, and cafe recipe all affect caffeine.

Watch your timing

Caffeine can stay active for hours. If sleep is suffering, try moving your last caffeinated drink earlier in the day.

Decaf is not zero

Most decaf coffee still contains a small amount of caffeine, usually much less than regular coffee.

Good to know: The FDA cites up to 400 mg per day as an amount not generally associated with dangerous effects for most healthy adults. Pregnant individuals are commonly advised to limit caffeine to 200 mg per day. Personal tolerance varies, so use this as a practical estimate — not medical advice.
