Fellow built its reputation on pour-over gear, and the Aiden is its attempt to put that same degree of control into a machine you can schedule from an app. It’s SCA-certified, brews to a set temperature throughout the cycle, and costs close to $400 — premium territory for a drip coffee maker.
Certified extraction, run from your phone
The Aiden is SCA-certified and manages water temperature to the degree through the brew cycle rather than just heating once and pouring. A dual showerhead and a dedicated bloom phase followed by measured pulses handle saturation, and it scales from a single cup up to a full 1.5-liter, 10-cup carafe. A hot-bloom method also produces cold brew in about 90 minutes, faster than the overnight steep cold brew usually requires. The companion app (iOS and Android) handles brew scheduling, remote control, and saving custom Brew Profiles by roast level, and it’s also where firmware updates arrive.
Where the price starts to feel thin
Tom’s Guide’s review flagged the build quality specifically: “the plastic finish feels a little thin in places, and some joints and hinges feel a little wobbly,” a notably different impression than Fellow’s metal pour-over kettles and drippers give. The plastic is food-grade and BPA-free, but this is a machine that costs as much as some espresso machines and doesn’t always feel like it in the hand.
A tank you can’t see and a dial that won’t stay put
The water tank sits on the side rather than the front, which means you can’t glance at the water level the way you can on most machines, and there’s no front indicator or low-water alert. Tom’s Guide reported running out of water mid-brew for exactly this reason. The physical controls are a small circular LCD you scroll through, and changing a setting mid-selection — going from 10 cups back down to 1 to switch roast type, for instance — means scrolling all the way back around. The reviewer’s workaround was to do anything beyond the basics through the app instead of the dial.
No warming plate, on purpose
The Aiden ships with a double-wall thermal carafe and skips a warming plate entirely, on the reasoning that a plate keeps cooking coffee rather than just holding its temperature — the same tradeoff that shows up as a downside on cheaper glass-carafe machines. It’s a deliberate design choice here, not a missing feature, though it does mean there’s no visible heat source telling you the coffee is still there and getting cold once the carafe’s insulation eventually gives out.
Before you buy
- Budget for $399.95 at full price, before considering the five available colors, which sell out individually.
- Plan to use the companion app for anything beyond a basic brew; reviewers found the physical dial slow for adjustments.
- Get in the habit of checking the side tank’s level yourself, since there’s no front window or low-water warning.
- Confirm your unit ships with the included cone and flat-bottom filters if you plan to use paper rather than none.
