A carafe sized for one or two people, not a family pot
750ml is a genuinely small batch — about five standard 5oz coffee cups, or two to three normal-sized mugs. That is the whole premise of the “Compact” name: this is not a machine meant to brew for a household, it is meant to sit on a small counter and make exactly as much coffee as one or two people will drink before it goes cold. If you are shopping for a machine to serve four people at breakfast, this carafe will run out well before everyone has a cup.
Keep Warm means it stays on, not that it manages heat well
The automatic keep-warm function does exactly what it says: coffee stays hot after brewing without you doing anything. What it does not have is an automatic shutoff, so the hotplate stays powered indefinitely once you turn the machine on, until you switch it off yourself. One hands-on review flagged this directly as “wasteful of energy,” which is fair — a machine that will happily run its warming plate all day if you forget about it is a real ongoing cost, small per-hour but easy to leave running by accident.
Pause & Serve works, with the usual tradeoff
The Pause & Serve system lets you pull the carafe out and pour a cup mid-cycle without the machine dripping onto the hotplate, which is a genuinely convenient feature on a small brewer you might not want to wait on. The tradeoff is the same one every pause-and-pour drip machine has: a cup poured early in the cycle is drawn from water that has passed through less-saturated grounds, so it tastes weaker than a cup poured after the full brew finishes. That is not a flaw specific to this machine, but it is worth knowing before you get in the habit of pouring the moment the light turns on.
What’s actually in the box
The machine ships with a glass carafe, the reusable permanent filter, and a coffee measuring spoon, and KRUPS lists the carafe and filter as dishwasher-safe. At 650W it is a modest draw compared with larger drip machines, which fits a design built around small batches rather than speed. Beyond the wattage and capacity, KRUPS’ own spec sheet is thin on further detail like exact dimensions or cord length, and we found no independent lab test of this specific model to fill that gap.
Before you buy
- Confirm 750ml (about 25oz) actually covers your household — this is a one-or-two-person carafe, not a family-sized one.
- Get in the habit of switching the machine off manually; there is no auto shutoff on the warming plate.
- If you plan to pour mid-brew regularly, expect the first cup to taste noticeably weaker than the last.
- Decide whether the reusable filter’s convenience outweighs the slightly heavier body a permanent filter can leave versus paper, since both options are available to you.
